Best Practices Tips - Goals

A new year, new goals.

Many of us use the new Calendar year as a launching time for personal and professional goals. You start with the best intentions, vowing that this time you are going to follow through until you achieve success.

Here are a few ways to help keep you on track:

  • Write down your goal and target date for completion. Read it everyday.

  • Tell close associates or friends about your goal and your achievement date.

  • Do one action each day that brings you closer to completion - even a phone call, or a few lines of text.

  • Keep a log of your actions and watch your progress grow.

  • Associate with supportive colleagues and mentors to help keep you focused and motivated. Avoid nay-sayers.

  • A detour from your path doesn't mean your project has reached the point of no return. Pick up where you left off and get back on track. No guilt, no shame, no blame.

Success is a continuing journey, not a final destination.

High achievers keep raising the bar by setting goals and mining for opportunities. Several small goals can take you the highest peaks. Patience and tenacity are your partners to success. Here are a few thoughts to help you on your way to achievement.

  • Opportunities often need to be created, not merely found.

  • Overnight success is the exception, not the rule.

  • To find open doors, keep an open mind.

  • Better to take several small steps, than no steps at all.

  • Ask yourself, 'Today, what step have I taken on my road to success?'
